Christmas in Germany, an experience I will never forget
The Christmas holiday begins Dec. 24 and ends on 26. On the 24th (Christmas Eve), most Germans average working day and the shops are open until early afternoon. Gifts are usually opened on the evening of 24th. Christmas Day is a bit different. Unlike the U.S., Germany holds two days of Christmas, 25 and 26.
Christmas time in Germany is around 28-40 degrees Fahrenheit. Snow not very common during this time. You may have luck if you're visiting a city located at higher altitudes. In Germany, you probably get an average snowfall of five years in lower areas.
Christmas in Germany may be one of the strangest experiences ever. With the famous Christmas markets in almost every city that is, you are sure to have a moment of your life. Whether you're visiting Germany during the holiday season for business or pleasure, you will have plenty to talk when return home. Germans celebrate this feast is not very different from the American way. The tradition of Christmas tree with presents underneath, of course, tradition main. You will find the lights all over the place like you in the middle U.S. are traditional and are hung and filled with gifts for children. Santa Claus (Weihnachtsmann) is no different. The large bearded man dressed in red, riding in a matte raindeer drawn. Children are always excited to see what Santa left them under the tree. Lets talk about some of the things we experience during the Christmas holidays in Germany.
Christmas (Weihnachtsfest) – Arguably the number one attraction Christmas in Germany. These excitation functions normally begins in late November and end on 22 or 23 December in large cities such as Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich. In smaller towns that are normally held on a weekend in December. Each village has its own festival so that it is not uncommon for festivals to be held different weekends. Traditionally, the Mayor opens the Christmas Party for the lighting of an enormous tree.
Christmas Festivals are a place you can go with your family to enjoy the Christmas season and enjoy the wonder of this season brings. Festivals are usually held in the city center in a public area, open. You just go to the area and enjoy. You may want to drive to the festivals. Germany has very limited spaces during normal months and is almost impossible get a parking place anywhere near a Christmas market. There is an option if you want to go by car can park in a garage and pay approximately: two euros per hour but I will warn, Gluehwein tends to sneak up on you. There are several things to experience in these festivals. Below are just some of the most traditional.
Gluehwein (Glow Wine) This is a popular alcoholic drink during the Christmas holidays in Germany. Gluehwein is a warm red wine served in small huts at these festivals. Gluewein usually only served during the Christmas season, but you can buy all year in a liquor store in Germany.
Bread gingerbread (Lebkuchen) The traditional gingerbread you can see is covered in chocolate. You will see various shapes and sizes, decorated or not, as you are asked through the party. The city of Nuremberg, provides the most famous gingerbread that can be found throughout Germany during the holiday season.
Soldiers Nutcracker and Drummers, these famous figures can be found through any festival he should visit. They range in size miniature to very large and there are several styles different to choose from.
Chestnut (Brown) Like the famous song, chestnuts are roasting on an open fire and served to you piping hot. You'll find many people eating at these goodies during the holidays too.
Christmas dinner, some of the tradional Christmas dishes are:
Christmas Goose (Weihnachtsgans) This traditional dish consists of a stuffed goose, potato dumplings, red and cabage wine sauce flavor. There is no special technique Fixing this dish, but the sauce made of wine, juices produced during cooking of the goose and sauce. You can find this in many restaurants in Germany during the Christmas season of the German family and many do well.
Weihnachtsstollen, There is no English translation as we know, but the German bread consists of raisins, almond paste, candied orange peel and many other ingredients. The bread is topped with powdered sugar. You can find this bread in any supermarket in Germany during the Christmas season.
Candy Apples (Bratapfel) flavorfull These caramel apples are very popular during the Christmas Season in Germany and the United States and many other countries. You can find these delicacies, especially in the Christmas festival.
Christmas Crackers (Weihnachtsgebaeck) Christmas Cookies are made in different variations and flavors throughout Germany. You are sure to find some private pleasure your taste. There is not one traditional Christmas cookie individual facts, but are Christmas cookies in Germany during Christmas.
